Setting Descriptions from The Professor's Nephew
Na'Kit-Kivian Cove
Nestled among the high cliffs of the Ocean Unknown is a large indentation in the rock created thousands of years ago by a screaming asteroid of a strange and unique mineral. It crashed hard into the cliffs creating numerous caverns, forever illuminating the rocks with a foreign glow. With the looming shapes and peaks of the jagged rocks and the eerie sounds created as the wind whistled and whined through them, accompanied with the odd glow from the celestial mineral, the cove earned a supernatural aura and reputation. In fact, the locals named it Na’Kit-Kivian Cove, meaning Coast of the Haunted Waters. People did their best to distance themselves from Na’Kit-Kivian Cove, and only less than a handful were brave enough to explore its splendor. Only one, though, was able to find and use the extraordinary power of Na’Kit-Kivian Cove.
The Gustavor Building
Created hundreds of years ago by a man named Sidyo Rovatsug by rocks quarried from Na'Kit-Kivian Cove, the Gustavor Building, in downtown Populas City, has had a reputation of being haunted and over the years has lost many of its occupants. Lost? Yes...but more like disappeared. Professor Arvon Dourefield finally buys the old building and turns it into his museum. He hires his trouble great nephew Rylen Alumak, who finds that the Gustavor Building has a secret hidden beyond the elevator doors.
Tretton Valley
In the beautiful and serene valley of River Tretton stands 13 stones so odd and unique. Conical in shape, they rise up unnaturally from the ground as if bursting out of the lush meadow and towering higher than most of the mature trees. Each of these stones is ancient, created thousands of years ago by the original 13 sons of Nabuk. They are considered sacred, a sanctuary and the official meeting place for the Sokestam Tribal Council.
Castle Daklor
Perched high on a monolith island within the middle of Solvangar Canyon (the longest and deepest canyon in the Known World), Castle Daklor is home and headquarters for Demeanis Deyol and his fierce Darkadien horse brigade. Only accessible by a long arched stone bridge, it is nearly impossible to breach its walls as the only way in is heavily guarded. Rylen sneaks in, however, dressed as a Darkadien and steals the Rock of Iris. The first outsider to ever successfully penetrate into the inner guts of Castle Daklor.
Iklandangar E'e Narte
The great jagged peaks, deep crevaces and sheer vertical cliffs of ice were created thousands of years ago by Ursak von Nortik, King of Pauzaland, to keep the enemies of of his people at bay. Iklandangar E'e Narte, or Ice Range of the North, it became a sanctuary for the menacing Iklanbears, a transparent animal that terrorizes any intruders and trespassers. Most people who enter the frozen mountain range get lost and die as a result of the subzero temperatures and blinding blizzard conditions, but for the unfortunate that survive those elements the Iklanbears act quickly and bring a gruesome horrible death. Very few have ever explored the Ice Range and lived to tell about it. Rylen finds the Crystal Claw there and safely returns it to the Gustavor Museum.
Akrabul
The sand swamp of ancient Akrabul has long been a place of mystery. The ever flowing sands constantly shift and flow like waves on an ocean allowing for one to easily get lost in its sandy tides. But that's not the mystery...the mystery is the Akrabulian Wonder. It is an unseen force that attacks as fast as lightning and as quick as a windstorm. It gobbles people up in an instant and devours them whole or disintegrates them into a cloud of sand. Rylen and his friend Havenrose brave the Akrabulian Wonder and find the Golden Ashes from the Tree of Hadakmur buried deep inside the Sandman's Eye.
Lake Dragkosvete and the Isle of Cyllias Ey'e
In the cold waters of the fog shrouded Lake Dragkovete lies the Isle of Cyllias Ey'e, an old dungeon island that formerly housed some of the most brutal criminals of the Known World. Built high on a mountaintop, Cyllias Ey'e soon became flooded when the Ice Range was formed. Slowly the waters rose and surrounded the dungeon forcing the warden and guards to flee, leaving the prisoners to slowly drown. The dungeon island, the Isle of Cyllias Ey'e, creeps out of the middle of dismal Lake Dragkosvete. It is said to be haunted by the ghosts of its drowned prisoners protecting the Spout of Tamewater.
